Renaming a Post Processor

Renaming a Post Processor

Post processors are made up of 3 to 4 files, the Machine Definition, the Control Definition, the PST file, and a PSB file if its a custom post. These files read through a directory and look for the file's name as it is saved in the post processor, and if the file is moved or renamed improperly it may not be in sync anymore and need to be repaired. Mastercam has a tool called the "Machine Definition/Control Definition/Post Rename Utility" and you can find it by going to the home tab and using "Command Finder" and typing it in.

Once it's open you can select the type of post you want to change the name of, MMD is Mill Machine Definition, RMD is Router Machine Definition, LMD is Lathe Machine Definition,  and WMD is Wire Machine Definition. Before you change the name it's recommended that you go to the Gear in the top right corner and go into the Configuration. In the Configuration you can check the "Preserve Original Files" This will make copies with the new name and save your originals.

Once you're ready to rename the post, use the drop-down by Machine on the left side to select the Machine Definition you wish to change. The Machine Definition loads the Control Definition, and that will load the Post files. On the Right side type the new name you wish to rename the post processor to. It's recommended that all the files are changed the the same name, this will make them easier to identify when managing posts.
