Moving the Shared Mastercam Folder to a New Computer

Moving the Shared Mastercam Folder to a New Computer

This solution will go over transferring files to a new computer. First the new computer will need to have Mastercam installed and it's recommended that all updated are completed. Before you start, make sure Mastercam is shut down.

The first thing needed is the shared Mastercam folder, it contains the Operations, Tools Libraries, and Post Processors. There are other files Mastercam needs in the shared folder, but the Operation Defaults are the settings for the toolpaths that users set to default when loading a toolpath, the Tool Library will have any custom tools or user defined tools, and the Post Processors can be customized for the customer and needs to be loaded to post code. Find the Shared Mastercam folder on the C drive in Users, Public, and then you'll find them in Public Documents.

Copy the Shared Mastercam Folder for the version you're using. (this example uses Shared Mcam2019). Right Click on the Shared Mastercam folder, and compress it to a Zipped folder.

Once you've copied the folder to a flash driver, or loaded into a directory that can be accessed from the new computer, go through the same directory on the new computer and rename the Shared folder there before loading the Shared Mastercam folder from the other computer. If you open the compressed folder using Windows File Explorer, yo will see the Shared Mastercam folder inside, and can drop it into the new computer's Public Document directory. (Warning: If the compressed or zipped folder is extracted there will be a Shared Mastercam folder inside the Shared Mastercam folder, and the one inside will need to be pulled out.)

Do not leave a copy with the same name as the Shared Mastercam folder on the desktop, or uncompressed where the computer can read it, it can cause trouble managing Mastercam's files and cause sync issues with Mastercam and the files.
