Migration Wizard is a built-in utility used to update Mastercam files and machine files to a newer version of Mastercam. Users can choose to migrate all files or have more control and migrate only the My Mastercam folder or Shared Mastercam folder.

To use Migration Wizard, open the new version of Mastercam and go to File -> Convert -> Migration Wizard.


There are two options, Basic and Advanced. The Basic option will automatically update all Mastercam files from the previous release, including part files (.mcam). If you have successfully proven out the new release and are using release immediately prior - for example, migrating to Mastercam 2024 from 2023 - this is a good option. Otherwise, use the Advanced option.



The Advanced option allows for more control over what My Mastercam and Shared Mastercam folders you're migrating from. For example, if you're upgrading from Mastercam 2022 to 2024 there's no issue since you can manually choose the "source" folder. Or, if your shop stores the Shared Mastercam folder on a network location, you can select any directory on your computer or network.

NOTE: make sure the "source" and "destination" folders are separate directories before continuing, or you risk permanently overwriting critical part files and machine files.



The next page controls which file types will be migrated, and then you can choose the versions to migrate. The Migration Wizard can automatically upgrade up to 3 past releases.




Finally, click Next and then Finish. It typically takes 2-5 minutes for Migration Wizard to complete, and once finished you can view a log of the converted files. Of course, if you have any issues or need more support, please reach out to us at support@qtemfg.com or 877-429-5708.
